Community Guidelines
Effective date: June 1, 2026 · Last updated: June 1, 2026
Captain's Connection exists because boaters help each other. These guidelines keep the community honest, useful, and safe for everyone on the water.
1Honest Reviews Only
Reviews must reflect your real, first-hand experience.
We built Captain's Connection because the boating community deserves trustworthy information when they're in an unfamiliar port with a problem. A fake or exaggerated review can send a fellow boater to a bad shop or steer them away from a great one. Both hurt people.
✓ Good reviews:
- Describe a specific job you had done and the outcome
- Mention what the service provider did well or could improve
- Include relevant context (type of boat, type of work, wait time)
- Are honest even if you had a negative experience
✗ Not allowed:
- Reviews for a business you have never personally used
- Reviews written by the business owner or their employees
- Reviews written by a competitor or their associates
- Reviews where you were paid, comped, or otherwise incentivized
- Multiple reviews of the same business from one person
- Reviews that contain false statements of fact
2Treat Everyone with Respect
Critical reviews are welcome — even glowing ones — but personal attacks are not. When writing about a negative experience, focus on what happened, not on attacking the person. This applies to reviews of businesses, responses to other users' posts, and any content on your profile.
Not allowed:
- Harassment, threats, or intimidation of any person
- Hate speech based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or national origin
- Doxxing (sharing private personal information without consent)
- Coordinated attacks on a business or individual
3Content Standards
All content on Captain's Connection — reviews, profile bios, trip updates, photos, and social links — must follow these standards:
- No explicit or adult content. This is a professional community platform.
- No spam or commercial solicitation. Don't use your profile or reviews to advertise your own business.
- No illegal content. This includes content that promotes illegal activity or infringes on copyright or privacy.
- No malicious links. Only verified social media profiles are permitted in the social links section. Shortened or suspicious URLs will be blocked.
- Photos must be yours. Only upload photos you own or have explicit permission to share. No photos of other people without their consent.
4For Business Owners
If you claim your business listing on Captain's Connection, you agree to represent your business honestly and respond to reviews professionally. Specifically:
- Do not ask customers to post positive reviews in exchange for discounts or free services
- Do not threaten customers who leave negative reviews
- Do not create fake user accounts to boost your rating
- Respond to reviews in a professional tone, even critical ones
- Business information you provide must be accurate (hours, location, services offered)
Violations by claimed businesses may result in removal of the claimed status, suppression of their listing, or permanent removal from the platform.
5Enforcement
Captain's Connection moderates content and accounts. Depending on the severity and history, violations may result in:
Warning
First-time or minor violations. Content may be removed and you'll receive a notice.
Suspension
Repeated violations or a single serious violation. Account access temporarily restricted.
Permanent Ban
Severe violations, fraud, harassment campaigns, or repeated offenses after suspension.
We reserve the right to remove any content or account at our discretion if we believe it violates the spirit of these guidelines, even if not explicitly listed above.
