Captain's Connection

1. What We Collect

Account information

When you create an account, we collect your email address. We use Supabase's magic-link authentication, which means we never store your password.

Profile information (optional)

Display name, home port, boating experience level, profile photo, boat details (name, make, model, year, type, length, photo), bio text, current trip status, and social media profile links. All of this is optional and entered by you.

Reviews and content

Any reviews, ratings, or other content you submit through the Platform.

Location data

If you grant location permission in your browser, we use your approximate location to center search results. We do not store your location data. You can also enter a location manually without granting browser permission.

Usage data

Standard server logs including IP addresses, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps. This data is used for security and performance monitoring.

2. How We Use It

To operate and improve the Platform
To display your profile and reviews to other users
To send magic-link login emails (the only email we send without your explicit opt-in)
To moderate content and enforce our Community Guidelines
To display map-based search results using the Google Maps API
To detect and prevent fraud or abuse

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data to serve you advertisements.

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the Platform:

Supabase

Database, authentication, and file storage

Google Maps Platform

Business search, maps, and geocoding

Vercel

Web hosting and content delivery

Stripe

Payment processing (when billing is enabled)

Each of these services has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data. By using Captain's Connection, you acknowledge that your data may be processed by these services.

4. Public Information

The following information on your profile is visible to all users of the Platform and is effectively public: your display name, profile photo, home port, experience level, boat details you've added, bio text, current trip status, and social media links. Reviews you post are attributed to your display name and are public.

Your email address is never displayed publicly.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from your Account page — deletion is immediate and permanent. Your profile, boats, forum posts, and personal information are removed immediately. Reviews you have posted are anonymized (attributed to “Deleted User”) rather than removed, as deleting them would distort the integrity of business ratings.

6. Cookies

We use a small number of essential cookies to maintain your login session. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but doing so will prevent you from staying logged in.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you
Correct inaccurate information in your profile at any time
Request deletion of your account and personal data — available directly in your Account page
Request a copy of your data in a portable format

Account deletion can be done instantly from your Account page. For all other requests, email us at ContactCaptainsConnection@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days.

8. Security

We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections (HTTPS), passwordless authentication, and row-level security on our database so users can only access their own data. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take the protection of your data seriously.

9. Children's Privacy

Captain's Connection is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us immediately.
